Imagine waking up excited for the day, knowing that you will get to play games, run around and kick balls as hard as you can. In fitness, we tend to follow and do what social media dictates as ‘good’, what a trainer tells us we need to do, or whatever suits our schedule. We start to lose the excitement of just having fun.
Figuring out what we enjoy is the first step, and kids waste no time deciding what they enjoy doing most. After all, the difficult part isn’t motivating them to go play soccer or run races, it’s getting them to stop. Having two boys who enjoy playing World Cup FIFA in my living room is a recipe for broken glass. But it works up a sweat and ends up being a full body workout with them climbing furniture to retrieve their make shift soccer ball.
Kids come into our studio and for as long as you will allow them to, they will run on the air runner, play with the assault bikes, do box jumps, burpees, pick up the dumbbells and do as many exercises as they can. At the end, they’ll be exhausted but always tell us what a good time they had. This is the attitude you need to bring to the gym if you want to look as good as they do!
It’s imperative that your choice of exercise should be enjoyable and not feel like a drag. This way you won’t need to force yourself out to play, but rather you’ll be excited about getting there and having fun. If this is not the case, and you’re finding yourself bored, it’s probably time for a change. Realistically there are many fitness models or programs that will get you the results you’re after. Make sure the one you follow is relevant to your interests!
We encourage our clients to always keep us updated with how they feel physically but also mentally. That way we can adapt or change up their programming to suit their interests to help them stay motivated. A motivated client that trains consistently will always get better results than someone that doesn’t want to be there.
