With kids, they tend to have a good balance when it comes to eating. They get in their vegetables and fruits and have a healthy dose of protein. If you asked my kids what the most important step is to building muscles , they will quickly respond with eating protein. Even though the actual concept is lost to them, they have been exposed enough to the world of fitness to understand that to build the muscle you want, you will need to provide the building blocks.
The phrase “6 packs are made in the kitchen” is thrown around a lot, but it still rings true. You must be wondering, “how come my kids can eat carbs all day long and still cartwheel away with rippling abs?” Besides being younger, children process nutrients differently to adults. Plus, most kids, especially mine, balance their nutrition with high volume activity. Fueling their play time with a balanced meal of bananas, pancakes and Nutella works because it’s all burnt off chasing the dogs for a couple of hours.
However, while kids generally follow a very well-balanced diet, it is not always their choice. We all know who buys and cooks the food in the house, not to mention who’s in charge (you, the parent, the helper, or the grandparents). A good way to eat would be feed yourself the same way you feed your kids. Cut all the crap you wouldn’t feed them, and you’ll start to see the benefits. Make sure not to get this wrong and feed your kids the same way you eat… last thing we need is a household of drunk 6-year-olds running around!
Try this as a challenge and see how it goes, your kids will have fun telling you to finish your broccoli and you may realize that a little extra ice cream never hurt anyone.
